Newgy Robo-Pong 2050 Review
Ping Pong robot Review: 4.5 stars out of 5
The Newgy Robo-Pong 2050 is a high-end, full-featured table tennis training robot from Newgy. Newgy is a worldwide leader in table tennis robots and this product is a perfect example of the caliber and commitment to quality of the Newgy Brand.
The Newgy 2050 features a ball recycling system that really differentiates it from lower-tiered ping pong robots suchs as the Newgy 1040 or Newgy 540. The included digital controls on the 2050 allow you full control of the ball speed, oscillation, spin and placement of shots. The 2050 is capable of delivering a large range of different types of shots from fast loops to finesse heavy backspin chops. It can also deliver pushes, chops, counters, lobs and more.
In addition to the shot types, the Newgy 2050 can deliver a multitude of different spins including topspin, backspin, left and right sidespin as well as combinations. With fully customizable spins and shot types, there really is no limit to the types of shots it can produce. You simply adjust the head of the robot to adjust the spin type.

How does the Newgy 2050 differ from the Newgy 1040?
One big difference big differences between the Newgy 2050 and Newgy 1040 is the digital controls. This is an important distinction because it basically means that that 2050 has a ton more customizability and control versus the 1040. Features like the customizable drills, shot types and variation are only made possible through selecting them via the digital interface. Additionally, the digital interface on the 2050 is much easier to use when compared to the analog physical knobs of the Newgy 1040.
Another big difference is that the Newgy Robo-Pong 2050 has the “Elite” recycling net system. I would consider this to be the best feature of the Newgy 2050. This is one of the coolest features because it allows the robot to continously feed balls hit back into the net so you can play for hours without having to refill it. You should actually be able to achieve unlimited playtime with the Robot-Pong 2050 versus just several minutes with the Newgy 1040.
Playing Experience
The Robo-Pong 2050 allows you to choose between three different “tactics” modes. These allow you to set up the robot to help you train in different ways.
The first mode is called “Precise Placement” which delivers consistent and accurate shots that you let you practice a specific set of strokes with a level of repetition that no human player would be able to deliver. The second mode, called “Random Oscillation”, includes 21 different randomized options and provides an unpredictable level of play similar to that of a real human opponent. The last mode, called “Drill Mode”, provides 64 different pre-programmed drills that let you focus on everything from footwork, to competitive strokes, to even a cardio workout.
With the Robo-Pong 2050, each mode is completely customizable and you can adjust the pace and skill level to match what your comfortable with. You can even create custom drills that suit your needs. The robot can launch up to 170 balls for minute for extremey difficult practice.
Assembly
The Newgy Robo-pong 2050 has a relatively easy assembly process, and as long as you have a regulation size table you should be able to assemble it without any issues at all. Most buyers report that a full assembly of the Robo-pong 2050 takes only about 15 minutes. It does, however, require that you adjust the robot once it is fully set up which requires adjusting the head angle as well as the making changes in the software. This process shouldn’t take longer than an addition 15 minnutes though.
Potential Downsides
The biggest downside of the Robo-pong 2050 is the price. This is a top-tier training robot and it will cost you. However, if you want the unparalleled training experience while not having to really ever reload the machine, then this is the training robot for you.
A few buyers have comlained about problems relating to issues with the oscillator. As this component is in constant motion when in use, it can be a problem area for some. While most people won’t experience this issue, there is a chance that after many hours of continuous play that the oscillator can break down and only be able to feed balls in a fixed direction.
Other reported issues have to do with adjustment. For some, this robot can be difficult to adjust so it may not be worth it for someone that is not okay with tinkering with it to get it to meet their needs.
Conclusion
The Newgy Robo-Pong 2050 is a solid choice for a top-tier, competitive training robot with tons of options and customizability. It is definitely the wrong choice for beginning players or those that aren’t serious about the sport. But if you want the best training experience possible in the comfort of your own home, the Newgy Robo-Pong 2050 is the perfect choice for you.
