The Newgy Robo-Pong 1040 is a middle-tier, analog-controlled table tennis training robot from Newgy. It’s a big step up from the Newgy 540 but is not a professional quality training robot like the Newgy 2050.

The Newgy 1040 features a 200 ping pong ball capacity and is equipped with a motorized rotating head that can place the ball on either side of the table and swivel from side to side. It has a maximum shot frequency of 90 balls per minute and a max ball speed of 75 mph. Also, the Newgy 1040 can be upgraded to the 2050 which has support for unlimited play time with its popular “elite” recycling net system.

How does the Newgy 1040 differ from the Newgy 540?

The biggest difference between the Newgy 1040 and the Newgy 540 is ball capacity. The 1040 can hold up to 200 balls while the 540 can only hold around 100. Also, the Newgy 1040 can swivel and provide shots on either side of the table while the Newgy 540 cannot. Lastly the Newgy 1040 can shoot ball faster and with greater frequncy than the Newgy 540 - it can shoot balls up to 90 times per minute at speeds up to 75 mph while the 540 can only shoot 60 balls per minute and tops out at 70 mph.

Assembly

The assembly of the Newgy 1040 is super easy and is a signficant improvement over more complex ping pong training systems like the Newgy 2040. There is no net assembly required which means that all you need to do is unpack it, put it on your table and calibrate it before you are ready to start practicing.

Potential Downsides

Some customers have complained that the Newgy 1040 tends to jam and sometimes it jams on balls so often that its hard to use for extended periods of time. Others have experienced infrequent jams with this robot and have reported that it works great.

We think this can have a lot to do with the types of ping pong balls used, we highly recommend you use GOGO 3-Star 40mm Table Tennis Balls. These balls will not jam as often and will provide a better praciticing experience.

Conclusion

The Newgy 1040 is a solid middle tier ping pong training robot that provides a good feature set for a reasonable price. It is significantly less expensive than many training robots out there and allows you to practice your skills effectively with minimal problems and complications. While it doesn’t have fancy features like a digital control system or a recycling net system, it offers a good playing experience for the price and also comes with a good one year limited warranty as well as a 30 day money back guarantee.
